JULY BOARD MEETING REPORT
The Board met on July 8, 2008 at Fred’s Fish House at noon. Board members present were Adam, Bill G., Larry, Jennifer, Sue and Gaylon. Members present were Renee, Karen and Bill P.
The minutes and financial statement were approved.
The members discussed achieving 80% average annual attendance for the year, 2% above the goal of 78%, great job!
The Strategic Plan for the year 2008-2009 was discussed and approved with revisions. Adam will distribute a finalized version to the Board in about a week. Highlights from the strategic plan include: increasing membership by at least 1 net new member this year, achieve average annual attendance of 82%, enhance the new member orientation and mentoring program, supplement current local projects with nursing home visits over the Holidays, seek out an international water project, participation in Nothing but Nets and Polio Plus, have a Rotary Foundation program quarterly, contribute $107.00 to the Annual Programs Fund this year, and designate a Rotary Historian to keep track of club activities, take pictures and handle public relations.
The Board discussed the gun show and the possibility of holding a drawing for a gun only instead of the actual gun show. The Board determined it needed more information regarding where how much income from the gun show came from tickets for the drawing and how much came from the other activities of the gun show. Adam will retrieve this information, discuss the gun show with pertinent members including Doyle and Ed and report to the Board next month to decide whether to continue the gun show or just hold a drawing.
Adam reported that Rotary District dues had been paid.
Adam informed the Board of the opportunity to attend a Cardinals baseball game on August 10th at Busch Stadium in St. Louis with members of the Springfield Southeast Rotary Club.
The Board discussed the status of Committee plans and the Budget, which will both be finalized and approved at the next Board meeting.
The Board discussed a suggestion regarding splitting the duties of presiding over the Radio Auction and Concession Stand between the President Elect and Vice President to alleviate time strain on the President Elect. Bill Garrison volunteered to do both this year and the Board decided to allow Bill to preside over both.
The Board approved the following donations: $200 to Ozark Action, Inc. to provide necessary school supplies to low income children in Oregon County, $250 to provide necessary funding for a fence to place around playground equipment for pre-school age children allowing for grant funds for the equipment, and to allocate fines and pass a hat at a regular Rotary meeting to support a Veteran’s Memorial project as requested by Rotarian Doyle at the local American Legion post.
The meeting adjourned.
